Before Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim, there was Mis Melody and MC Lyte…
Check out this Throwback Video of a young MC Lyte and old school rap artist Miss Melody performing the socially conscious rap collaboration, “Self Destruction.”
The song spearheaded a Stop The Violence Movement after a rap fan was killed at a Boogie Down Productions/Public Enemy concert in 1989. Legendary rapper KRS-ONE collected the hottest rappers in the game at that time for what is now a classic Peace Anthem. The proceeds of the “Self Destruction” were donated to the National Urban League.
MC Lyte’s flow begins at 1:44 and Miss Melody spits at 3:20.
