Ms. Melodie may not be a name you recognize, but it is one you should know. The plus-sized Brooklyn, New York native was one of the early Femcees who garnered acclaim and national recognition in the 1980′s.
She was married to Hip Hop Legend KRS-ONE and is the sister of rapper Harmony–both members of 80′s rap crew Boogie Down Productions. Despite these influential ties, Ms. Melodie was a respected MC in her own right.
She notably appeared in the classic social anthem, “Self-Destruction”–(WATCH IT NOW)–and had a hit with her song, “Live On Stage.” She also appeared in the film “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka“ and had a cameo in the Queen Latifah video “Ladies First“.
Melody, whose real name is Ramona Scott-Parker, died July 17, 2012 at the age of 43. At this time, the cause of her death hasn’t been released.
