R.I.P Ms. Melodie!

Ms. Melodie may not be a name you recognize, but it is one you should know.  The plus-sized Brooklyn, New York native was one of the early Femcees who garnered acclaim and national recognition in the 1980′s.

She was married to Hip Hop Legend KRS-ONE and is the sister of rapper Harmony–both members of 80′s rap crew Boogie Down Productions.  Despite these influential ties, Ms. Melodie was a respected MC in her own right.

She notably appeared in the classic social anthem, “Self-Destruction”–(WATCH IT NOW)–and had a hit with her song, Live On Stage.”  She also appeared in the filmI’m Gonna Get You Sucka and had a cameo in the Queen Latifah video Ladies First“.

Melody, whose real name is Ramona Scott-Parker, died July 17, 2012 at the age of 43.  At this time, the cause of her death hasn’t been released.

Friends of the late rapper and Hip Hop fans mourn the rap diva.  Here are just a few of the thousands of Tweets addressed to the respected MC:
