Missy Elliot Unsure About Producing Posthumous Aaliyah Album

Aaliyah’s family and record label (Blackground Records) is preparing the release of the first posthumous ”Aaliyah” album.Rapper Drake has been everywhere lately talking about his executive producing role in the project.  He’s even picked-up 2 new tattoos in honor of the late singer–one is a picture of Aaliyah’s face and the other, the numbers 1-1-6 (Aaliyah’s birth month and day) on his ribcage.

When news leaked that Drake and not Aaliyah’s career-long musical collaborators Timbaland and Missy Elliot, would be executive producing the posthumous album, Timbaland publicly announced his disapproval.  He told 105.1′s The Breakfast Club:

“I know they (Blackground Records) [are] trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if he do it, it should be with me and Missy. The proper way for him [Drake] to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record. But to put it on his [Drake's] record would just not be right!”  SOURCEWhile Timbaland’s friend and production partner Missy Elliot didn’t say anything publicly, Timbaland alluded to Missy being disappointed by the diss.  In an interesting twist…

Yesterday, a fan Tweeted Elliot about the Aaliyah project.  The fan remarked,

“I’m glad you gonna be involved on this aaliyah album miss.”

Elliot responded, she didn’t even know there was one!  [HUH???]

Even more interesting is THIS >>> On the same day the above-mentioned Tweets posted…Blackground Records rep Jomo Hankerson (who is also Aaliyah’s cousin) publicly announced Missy and Timbaland’s involvement with Aaliyah’s new album AND revealed that an unreleased track featuring Timbaland and Elliot would be on the new album.

Seems like a lot of Back and Forth going on here!  We Need A Resolution–Pronto!!!

Psst!!!  If you’re wondering why Missy nor Timbaland (who wrote and produced a bunch of Aaliyah records when the R&B singer was alive) were not asked to executive produce Aaliyah’s posthumous work…here’s the 411:

Sources say Timbaland and Missy want too much money to do the project.  Blackground Records passed them over and went with Drake–who agreed to a smaller cut of the pie AND WHO WOULD GIVE THE PROJECT THE PROMOTIONAL BOOST it needs to be a hit!!!

Aaliyah, who is credited with shaping the sound of contemporary R&B, died in a plane crash at age 22 in 2001.

WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD PRODUCE AALIYAH’S POSTHUMOUS ALBUM–DRAKE / MISSY & TIMBALAND???
