- Funkmaster Flex
Following the Hot 97 Summer Jam Fiasco, Funkmaster Flex promised New York’s Hot 97 Radio listeners he was going ruin Nicki Minaj’s career on his show.
Following this introduction, you’ll find the transcript from the conversation between Funkmaster Flex and Nicki Minaj On-Air where Flex confronts Nicki Minaj about not performing at Summer Jam and Nicki attempts to correct Flex’s assertion (on Sunday) that Nicki’s albums are selling poorly.
Although Flex didn’t exactly murder Nicki’s career, it is evident Hot 97 Radio and taste makers of Hip Hop like Funk and Rosenberg are forcing a change in the landscape of Hip Hop music. They’re strategically breaking Nicki’s hold on the Hip Hop market. They’re planting the idea that Real Hip Hop is all that matters and all they will support.
This has been done before. Remember MC Hammer? Remember Vanilla Ice? Same script. Different cast.
Unless Nicki Minaj and Wayne can figure out a way to re-route Hip Hop fans back onto their bandwagon, Nicki Minaj’s career may be shorter and less spectacular than any of us expected.

- Nicki Minaj
You see, artists need radio more than radio needs artists. There are hundreds of thousands of artists whose music the public will readily accept. But, there are only a few dozen radio disc jockeys and radio stations who have the power to influence a generation–who can literally “Make” or “Break” an artist’s career.
Nicki’s dismissal from the grace of Hot 97 could spell the beginning of the end for her career. Don’t believe me? You’ll see!!!
